The dreaded mud ball
Who's had one of these recently? It's bound to happen at some point over the winter, so rather than curse your luck and resort to hit and hope, follow our advice and you may just avoid bogey or worse.
When you're faced with a mud ball in the rough this winter and you're not able to clean it as you would be on the fairway, you're going to find that the ball is going to fly through the air with much less spin. So…
1. Select a club or landing area that will cater for your shot releasing towards the target.
Some of the mud is bound to disperse on impact, but it's impossible to predict which direction it will fly in. Therefore…
2. Take a neutral aim and commit to the swing like normal.
There is obviously going to be a degree of luck whatever you do, but unless you have to, don't take on any difficult flags. Try putting this into action.
